A Leap Towards Futuristic Technology: The Humane AI Pin
Imagine a world where your smartphone is not a physical object but a wearable projector pinned on your clothes, flashing apps, calls, and voice assistance on hands or surfaces. Welcome to the era of the Humane AI Pin, a non-physical smartphone revolution designed by Imran Chaudhri, a former Apple design director.
Design and Functionality
From its initial design, this finger-sized pin comes equipped with cameras to scan and see the surroundings, hidden sensors to activate it, and built-in speakers. The Humane AI Pin debuts a glimpse of its overall functionality at TED2023 in Vancouver, Canada, bringing a Black Mirror-esque experience to life.
Chaudhri showcases how the AI pin works, answering a call from his wife Bethany Bongiorno, another Apple alumnus. The pin attached to his jacket flashes the call onto his palm. His lexical command of ‘I’m going to have to get this’ triggers the pick-up function, replacing the traditional touch interaction of smartphones.
Chaudhri adds that the user doesn’t need a smartphone or other electronics to pair with Humane AI Pin – wearing it activates its features.
A Personal Assistant Beyond Web Searches: Unique Features
This futuristic pin isn’t just a phone substitute. The Humane AI Pin uses optical sensors that allow contextual and ambient compute interactions to unfold a seamless, screenless, and sensing-based technology. It extends its functionality beyond web search and quick queries, acting as a personal assistant reminding the user of their health issues and assisting with decision-making.
In one example, Chaudhri holds up a chocolate bar and asks the Humane AI Pin if he can eat it. The pin scans the chocolate, recognises his intolerance, and suggests avoiding it.
Imran Chaudhri’s Vision: Redefining Our Relationship with Technology
Imran Chaudhri believes that AI presents a huge opportunity for people to redefine their relationship with technology. He suggests that personal mobile computing will become faster, more powerful, and easier to use with the Humane AI Pin.
Chaudhri shares,
“The first Humane device will allow people to bring AI with them everywhere and we’re really looking forward to revealing more at our launch later this year.”
Powered by Qualcomm: What’s Next for Humane AI Pin?
Humane’s first device will be powered by an advanced Snapdragon platform from Qualcomm Technologies, promising to bring forth a new era of mobile tech.
This innovation sets the stage for a future where wearable technology and AI join hands to redefine the way we interact with technology.
The Humane AI Pin, an AI-enabled wearable projector, blurs the line between reality and science fiction. We are excited to see how this innovation unfolds and changes our relationship with technology.
