Government’s Commitment to Technological Advancement

“Our government is committed to ensuring that the people of Saskatchewan have access to the highest quality communication technologies and networks,” said Dustin Duncan, a minister responsible for SaskTel. This statement underscores the government’s dedication to advancing technological infrastructure in the region.

SaskTel’s Strategic Investment in 5G

Charlene Gavel, SaskTel president and CEO, elaborated on the strategic importance of this acquisition. “Spectrum is the foundation that all wireless networks are built upon, and we are pleased to make this investment on behalf of our customers as part of our extensive 5G network rollout,” she stated. This acquisition not only complements SaskTel’s existing 5G spectrum licenses but also promises to enhance the network’s speed and capacity significantly.

Impact on Data Speed and Smart Technology

The 5G network of SaskTel, already delivering data speeds reaching up to 1.2 Gbps, is poised to get even faster. The deployment of the newly acquired 3800 MHz spectrum, along with the 3500 MHz spectrum obtained in 2021, will boost network capacity, facilitating the broader adoption of smart technologies. This development holds immense potential for technological advancements in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and transportation.

Expanding Network Reach in Saskatchewan

Charlene added, “Since bringing 5G to Saskatchewan in 2021, our team has worked tirelessly to rapidly expand the network to as many customers as possible.” The commitment is evident as more than half of Saskatchewan’s population, including those in Regina, Saskatoon, and dozens of other communities, now enjoy 5G service.

SaskTel’s Vision for the Future

This acquisition is a part of SaskTel’s broader vision to invest over $1.6 billion of capital across Saskatchewan in the next five years. These investments are pivotal in ensuring that Saskatchewan remains among the most well-connected provinces in Canada.
