This ground-breaking initiative aims to enhance worksite safety and efficiency, leveraging a variety of next-generation applications. So, what does a 5G-powered construction site look like, and what impact will it have on the future of the construction industry?

5G: An Essential Tool for Today’s Construction Sites

Wireless communication has become an indispensable part of environments supporting highly mobile workers and machinery. The collaboration between Samsung, NAVER Cloud, and Hoban Construction underlines the potential of 5G networks to significantly enhance worksite operations.

“This collaboration with Samsung and Hoban Construction represents an exciting milestone in our efforts to bring 5G to various industries in Korea,” said Sang-young Han, Executive Director at NAVER Cloud Strategy and Planning. He emphasized his confidence in the transformative effects of 5G networks for the construction sector, projecting optimism about the potential for showcasing these benefits to the wider industry.

The Cutting-Edge 5G Applications in Construction

The new construction industry-specific 5G applications that will be deployed on Hoban Construction’s worksite represent a broad spectrum of technological innovation:

  1. Drone-based high-resolution monitoring: Providing live inspection videos, this reduces the need for on-site visits and enables earlier detection of issues.
  2. IoT concrete strength sensors: Supporting real-time monitoring of concrete temperature and strength, these sensors offer real-time, accurate information during the curing phase.
  3. Construction site management solutions: These applications allow workers on and off-site to track progress, view floor plans, and share updates through visual dashboards.
  4. Smart safety jackets: Equipped with gas detection sensors, 140-degree full HD cameras, and safety buttons, these jackets increase worksite safety by detecting potential risks earlier.
  5. Real-time CCTV video monitoring: Offering 4K video streaming capabilities, these CCTV cameras can be easily installed throughout worksites to reduce hazards and errors.

As stated by Kap Moon, Vice President of Management Division, Hoban Construction, “We look forward to using this advanced technology to enhance safety at our worksites, improve construction workflow, and provide workers with real-time data to allocate resources and deliver better outcomes for our projects.”

Samsung and Naver Cloud: The Partners Behind the Innovation

This project isn’t just a collaboration, it’s a demonstration of Samsung’s advanced network technology and NAVER Cloud’s leadership. NAVER Cloud, possessing a license for private 5G dedicated spectrum in Korea, is leading the project and managing partnerships.

Samsung, on the other hand, has provided the essential technology. Yong Chang, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, shares, “Our advanced network technology will help construction companies in expanding what’s possible, by bringing forth new tools and applications that will optimize their operations and improve safety on-site.”

The Future of Construction

The introduction of private 5G networks promises to transform and improve business operations across many industries. With the potential for automation, productivity, and safety improvements, the construction sector is on the brink of a technological revolution.

In conclusion, this collaboration is much more than a technological advancement; it is an exciting glimpse into the future of construction. By leveraging the power of 5G, Samsung, NAVER Cloud, and Hoban Construction are paving the way for more efficient, safer, and data-driven construction sites.
