Intel and Ericsson have announced an expanded partnership to advance next-generation 5G infrastructure. This collaboration will leverage Intel’s 18A process technology, marking a significant step forward in the telecommunications industry.
Intel has committed to manufacturing custom 5G SoCs (System-on-Chip) for Ericsson to create highly differentiated leadership products for future 5G infrastructure. This development exemplifies the growing confidence in Intel’s 18A process technology and further underscores the company’s progress on its ambitious roadmap of five-nodes-in-four-years to regain process leadership.
“As our work together evolves, this is a significant milestone with Ericsson to partner broadly on their next-generation optimized 5G infrastructure. This agreement exemplifies our shared vision to innovate and transform network connectivity, and it reinforces the growing customer confidence in our process and manufacturing technology,” said Sachin Katti, senior vice president and general manager of the Network and Edge group at Intel.
18A, Intel’s most advanced node, forms a critical part of the company’s five-nodes-in-four-years roadmap. This ambitious stride forward is expected to restore Intel to the process leadership position by 2025, signifying a turning point for its future market offerings.
The Intel Ericsson Collaboration is also set to optimize the 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors with Intel® vRAN Boost for Ericsson’s Cloud RAN solutions. This move will assist communication service providers to amplify network capacity, energy efficiency, while also achieving greater flexibility and scalability.
